Is the ANC feeling the pinch?

elections2014

The next general elections in South Africa is in 2014. As usual, the elections machinery goes into overdrive and the elections trickery gets under way. However, I am not sure if the following is just elections trickery, or whether the ANC is starting to feel the pinch and pressure of electioneering. Especially now that Julius Malema started his own party, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF for short).

Cyril Ramaphosa (Felix Dlangamandla, Beeld)It is very clear that the ANC no longer has any ideas as to the running of the country, especially when taking into consideration how many poor and unemployed people we have in South Africa. How do we know this? ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa, visited the hometown of EFF leader, Julius Malema. How did he counsel a woman who was disappointed with the ANC and did not want to vote? He told her, “If all South Africans don’t vote, we will regress. The Boers [white people] will come back to control us.” South Africa is long past that point, and all this so-called leader of the ANC (Abortion Nepotism and Corruption/Condoms) could tell her is to watch out for the white monster! The ANC is policy-less. They have no answers for the problems of this nation. The fact that he told this woman to beware of the “dangerous” whites is because the policies of the ANC have not brought the freedom they promised. It has brought greater unemployment, creating a greater welfare problem, and invited more criminals into the fold.

Zweli Mkhize (Picture: Sapa)In an unrelated event, “ANC treasurer general Zweli Mkhize wants companies to fund political parties and has suggested the establishment of a trust fund, the Sowetan reported on Monday.” This was reported in a news article at News24. If it wasn’t so sad that the ANC now thinks that businesses should pay them for democracy in this country, it would be quite laughable. Don’t think for a moment that the ANC is doing this for the good of democracy in this country. They have this demented idea that they would reign in this country until Jesus comes. Further, with a current, almost two-thirds majority vote, they sometimes actually believe they will never be dethroned. Hence my belief that this democracy trust fund, is simply a ruse to get companies to bank-roll the ANC. Further, Mkhize believes that the fund should be “administered by the office of the Speaker of the National Assembly, which would allocate the funds in line with proportional representation of parties.” Of course, the fact that the speaker is just another ANC crony should not alarm us, should it? OF COURSE IT SHOULD! The fact is that large companies such as Anglo American have followed this idea of proportionate funding for many years. All that this does is to perpetuate the current situation. The parties that roll in the money, such as the ANC, will always come out on top since their budgets allow for so much more marketing of their brand. Small parties, with real answers for this country such as the ACDP, can’t get anywhere since they do not have the funds to market themselves and to make sure that people know what they stand for.

What Mkhize is proposing, is to perpetuate crony capitalism in South Africa. That is a capitalism that benefits the ANC and the businesses that support it. Herman Mashaba, chairman of the Free Market Foundation, is against this type of capitalism.

Mashaba

“has been an outspoken and uncompromising champion of the free market in the new South Africa. His great strength is that he is beholden to no political party or politician. He believes the opposite is true of too many business leaders in South Africa.

“This is their great weakness, and the whole country is suffering because of it.

“They keep quiet because they are terrified of losing their political connections, fearing that if they lose them, they will lose government business, he says.

“In effect, this means that crony capitalism rules -and crony capitalism is a devastating threat to democracy in South Africa, he believes.” (Business Day Live)

He said that

“Draconian labour legislation has destroyed entrepreneurship in this country.”

In the end, I believe that the ANC is suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder. On the one hand they need to scare people into voting for them, and on the other hand they believe that they are the party of the Almighty. Or maybe it describes schizophrenia?

On the one hand the ANC claims to uphold democracy, but on the other hand they want to force businesses to pay for that democracy. Weird!

A Royal waste of tax money

goodwillzwelithini

South Africa is not ruled by a monarchy, but by a democracy, albeit a shaky one. However, would you be surprised if I told you that South Africa loses at least R66m per year to supposed monarchs in South Africa.

There is Goodwill Zwelithini (picture left), the Zulu king (Kwazulu-Natal); Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo, the Thembu king (Eastern Cape) who burnt down the huts of his subjects in the Eastern Cape’s Tyalara community and abducted the families in 1995-1996; Zanozuko Sigcau, the Pondo king (Eastern Cape) who, with his family remained holed in a 5-star hotel on the Kwazulu-Natal south coast for two months at the tax-payer’s expense; Zwelonke Sigcawu, the Xhosa king (Eastern Cape) who does not like his tax-payer provided official vehicle (Mercedes-Benz ML350 CDi – R778 000) and, together with Dalindyebo thinks that their R10 000 monthly petrol allowance is too little; Makhosonke II, the Ndebele king (Mpumalanga), Toni Mphephu Ramabulana, the Venda king (Limpopo); and Thulare Victor Thulare III, the Pedi king (Limpopo), who at the moment gets nothing, but is a director of 16 companies.

ANC speaks through both sides of its mouth

anc-two-headed-monsterOver the many years of the ANC’s existence—100 years in 2012—we have now learnt with great clarity that the ANC will change strategies and policies as the circumstances demand, whatever their end-goal is!

The case in point is that several months ago, Julius Malema and his Pied Piper mice wanted to charge into Botswana to “help establish” a regime change in that country. With great fanfare the ANC chastised him and ANCYL for bringing the ANC into disrepute.

Of course, the ANC has a long-standing disrepute that all clear thinking people can clearly see and understand, since the ANC regularly rams controversial laws through parliament when they perceive resistance to their proposed laws. This was clearly the case with abortion on demand, legalised pornography, legalised same-sex whatever-it-is-but-it-is-not-marriage and now lately the secrecy bill. With each of these bills, the ANC simply rammed them through parliament, while not listening at all to what people were saying in consultation with the government. In fact, with each of these votes in parliament, ANC Members of Parliament (MPs) had no right to a vote of conscience. They were told what to vote! Democracy has no meaning to this monster!

Some political parties will have to rethink either their strategy or their existence

vote

Amazingly Pretty and Somewhat Literary

Once again, South Africans have gone to the polls and have made their decision as to which political party they prefer to run their respective municipalities in this country.

At the end of any election cycle, it isn’t always easy to analyse the data, since you do not actually know what the voters were thinking while they voted. As a result, you simply sit with raw data. So, in order to make sense of the raw data, you have to extrapolate from past election cycles into the present and then try to predict what the future holds.

At this point, I am sure many political parties must be thinking about the future. Some parties have had a downward slide for several years now.

Since 1994, we have had 4 general elections (GE) and 3 local government elections (LGE). LGEs are simply municipal elections.

Strikes in South Africa show the heart of a brutal nation

In a previous post on the strikes in South Africa I wrote:

"Striking in this country is never just a matter of downing tools. It inevitably leads to violence, intimidation, destruction and in several cases, death! This is a culture that the ANC bred under the previous government, and has lost control of since they took over the South African government."
These strikes show the heart of a nation that is brutal, a nation with demands that show no sympathy for those that are truly in need. It is a nation that truly shows no love for its fellow citizens that are in dire need and in some cases dying. This is a nation where the plight of the poor fall on deaf ears and promises of help are just that, promises! It is a nation where promises lead to votes, as in the case of the ANC, but where the promises lead nowhere!

This is a nation where a man in desperate need of an arm saving operation after his hand had been cut off, is turned away from 2 hospitals by strikers who have no sympathy for those in real need.

South Africa soon to experience its own Body Snatchers

John W. Whitehead
John W. Whitehead writes:
"Yet even in our present police state, with our lives and bureaucratic structure now oriented around a fear of the next terrorist attack, the underlying principle remains the same as it was over 50 years ago--namely, can we hold onto our basic freedoms and avoid succumbing to the soul-sucking dredge of conformity that threatens our very humanity?

"This question is at the heart of director Don Siegel's 1956 classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers, a film that not only captured the ideology and politics of its day but remains timely and relevant as it relates to the worries that plague us today.

Christian Voting Must be Biblically Based

It is always interesting to talk to people to hear their criteria for choosing who to vote for in an election. With the 2009 elections coming up on 22 April, it is time again to hear the ideas of people. People have different reasons for why they vote for certain political parties.

Most people look at financial issues, hence, their political outlook is mostly for personal gain. How can the government make my life better? This of course shows a dependence on the government. This is also not just an issue for the poor! The rich have the same thoughts. They would like a government that will ensure that their riches don't get squandered on unnecessary taxes, or will at least see to it that the money of the rich will keep on growing.

As Christians, we march to the beat of a different drum… a heavenly drum! And that drum is not beaten by us, the Christians, but by the Lord of the universe, Jesus Christ Himself. It is very much a Lordship issue, even in deciding who we will vote for in a political election.

God is not uninterested in politics! This is not that one sphere of life where God leaves man to his own devices. This is not a no-go zone for God! "The earth is the LORD's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein. (Ps 24:1)" To think that God can be excluded from any sphere of life, no matter how corrupt it has become, shows a naivety that does not belong with clear thinking people.

Politics, essentially has nothing to do with power. It primarily has to do with justice and care for a nation. It is exactly the quest for power by politicians that nations end up like Zimbabwe, DRC, Middle-East and China. Politics is about the good of the country, not about the individuals leading the country. As Lord Acton once said: "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." This is too much of a reality in our modern world not to take notice of it.

So, how does this choice of who to vote for affect Christians? When we look at who gets the vote in South Africa, it makes one wonder how many Christians actually march to the heavenly drum! Up until our last elections, it has been the ANC and DA as number one and two parties respectively.

Those results are quite perplexing, considering that about 70% of the population claims to be Christian. Why is this perplexing? Well, if one looks at the South African Voter's Guide, it becomes clear that these two parties stand antithetically opposed to Biblical Christian values.

savotersguide In all of life, Christians are admonished by the Scriptures to obey God. Why is it that they think it would be acceptable to disobey when they vote in elections?

Christians simply do not not have the luxury of making up their "own minds" on issues that have been clearly spelt out in the Scriptures. That is on any issue in life. Yet, it is true that the Scriptures do not tell us who to vote for. However, that does not give us an escape route to vote for parties that do not stand on the Lord's side!

In making up our minds who to vote for, there should be a clear procession of thought on the issues. As Christians, our decision must be guided by clear Biblical mandate first. That means, where the Bible speaks clearly, we have to follow. If the Bible is clear on the issue of murder, we cannot vote for a party that supports abortion, ala ANC and DA. The Bible is clear on murder. You get the point! Therefore, Biblical moral issues must be adhered to first in our decision before any other issues that are based on conscience or expediency.

So, issues such as abortion, pornography, homosexuality, prostitution and the like must take precedence in your decision who to vote for. The Bible is clear on these issues. There are clear commands and Biblical doctrine on each of these issues and other moral issues. As a result, issues of conscience, on which the Bible has no clear teaching, must play second fiddle to moral issues. Even more so, issues of expediency such as simple economic issues.

If Christians do not use their votes towards establishing Biblically righteous government, they are indeed using their votes towards evil. And, perpetuating evil in this way is clear disobedience against the clear statutes of God. "Without virtue, a society can be ruled only by fear, a truth that tyrants understand all too well."1 Already, the ANC is planning to amend the South African Constitution if they win a two-thirds majority.

Voting by a Christian must result in a better country with justice for all. A better country can only be seen as a righteous country. It does not have to be a country where all its citizens are Christians, but it will be a country where the people understand what is right and what is wrong, and where the law and its application brings true justice for all.

There are many Christians that vote for both the ANC and DA. They vote for the ANC as the so-called liberators from apartheid, and others vote for the DA as a so-called strong opposition to the ANC. With the upcoming elections, there will also be the breakaway party, COPE. When you look at the SA Voter's Guide, you will realise that COPE's policies are exactly the same as that of the ANC. In fact, of the 8 issues in the guide, the ANC and COPE get 0/8 and the DA get 2½. The ½ of the DA here is only because of stated policy, disregarding their poor voting record in parliament.

Remember, voting is a Christian duty. In a democracy, your vote can actually effect change. Your vote can move this country closer towards justice and righteous government. Don't throw that vote away by denying a party perhaps just that one vote it needs to have someone put into parliament. Further, don't waste your vote on the memories of so-called past liberation or on the promise of so-called strong opposition, especially when both of these sides stand for very much the same when it comes to moral issues.

Let your vote count towards righteous government, and vote for a Christian party such as the ACDP or CDA.

Christian, do not support and perpetuate immorality by giving your vote to parties that do the same! Do not vote through fear, but rather let your vote reinforce Christian Biblical values!

Is Fiji's political turmoil also a miracle?

There is a DVD making the rounds about how God did a miracle in Fiji when He raised Christians (or a Christian party) to rule the nation. How many years ago that was supposed to have happened, I do not know.

This DVD has created quite a stir among a small Christian group in the hope that the same would happen here in South Africa. Of course, this is all in the hope that South Africa will get a political solution with Godly government. I am sure most Christians hope for something like this to happen in South Africa. Is it realistic? Not at all! It is very presumptive to think that God would bring about such a miraculous change in South Africa in order to bring about a Christian political dispensation.

Of course, the New Testament never promises Christians any kind of majority political rule this side of heaven! God's kingdom is NOT of this world!

Coming back to Fiji, the island nation experienced a military coup back in 2006, which has brought the country into disrepute. Just this week, all free news reporting has been halted, and several foreign journalists have been expelled from the country.

Since there was a major change in government run by Christians some time ago, and that was seen as a miracle, are we to believe that the coup was also a miracle?

You see, when you put your hope in political means, your hopes will eventually be dashed.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. (Ps 20:7)

For those who want to think the worst of this blog post, NO, I am not saying that we as Christians should not be involved in politics. Neither am I saying that we should not vote.

What I am saying is that if your hopes and energy are spent on the political process, you are wasting your time. It is NOT the political process that will change people's hearts. Political canvassing can merely get a vote in the form of a cross on a ballot paper.

Political activity leads NO ONE to the cross of Christ.

So, go vote on 22 April and get involved in Christian politics. Just remember, politics don't change hearts, only the gospel of Jesus Christ can!

The ACDP condemns in the strongest terms, the militant attack on its KZN Provincial Chairman, Cllr Glen Matthews and his colleague, whilst campaigning in Malangeni, Ward 9, Umdoni, today.

Cllr Matthews was putting up ACDP posters when he was attacked by ANC youth members, who said that they would pull down the ACDP posters, as the ANC was the only party welcomed in their area.

The ACDP calls on the ANC to not pay lip service to the Electoral code of conduct they have signed, and to bring their members into line in ANC "no go areas."

Charges of assault have been laid at the local SAPS station.

Biblical Democracy

I originally posted this at the ACDP Tshwane blog.

Having posted a review on the book, Biblical Democracy, I thought that I'd post a blurp on the book itself.

So, here it is!

What is wrong with our society and
what can we do to make it right?

The first part of this question is much easier than the second and I'm sure that each of us can speedily make a list of problems. But what can we do?

This is a lot harder and for many people the answer is "Nothing", so they put their heads down, try to live their lives quietly or maybe pack up and leave the country.

For others, the advice may be: "Look at other countries and imitate them. Look to Scandinavia or other liberal systems." Others may take socialist principles to heart and try to implement them. Still others say "Everything in the past was wrong. Let's start from scratch." Or the opposite: "We want everything back the way it was!"

In this post-modern society, everyone has an opinion and a right to it. That's fine as far as it goes, but because it does away with ultimate truth and right and wrong, it makes it impossible to accurately answer the second part of our question. On the other hand, what does God, our Creator, say about the problems in our country and what can be done?

If you are a Christian, you probably believe that the Bible has answers to our eternal destiny. But what about our life on earth? If you are not a Christian, are you open to look at history to see what has worked and what hasn't? Would you like to see how only democracy based on Biblical foundations can bring about the freedom and prosperity that we are seeking? If so, then I challenge you to thoughtfully read Biblical Democracy – a practical look at how principles in the Bible impact on society.

While the primary message of the Bible is certainly how sinful men and women can be reconciled to a Holy God, the secondary message is often neglected but is also important – how should we live our lives on earth in a way that honours God.

In Biblical Democracy, we seek to explore Biblical principles for government, look at opposing worldviews and reveal the problems that result from ignoring God's Word. Part 2 goes on to give an inspiring overview of how God has used individuals and governments down through the ages to fulfill His purposes. Biblical Democracy presents a well-researched synopsis of the positive influence that people of faith and courage have had on the course of history.

The book is user-friendly and full of quotes, pictures, cartoons, maps and graphs as well as footnotes, a time-line and index. It's an excellent resource for all! It's 291 pages, soft-cover and is a bargain at R78 plus R10 postage and packaging.

It has been well said that those who forget their history are doomed to repeat it so let us remind ourselves of the truth, as stated in the words of Abraham Lincoln: "It is the duty of nations as well as of men to acknowledge their dependence upon the overruling power of God… and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord."

Biblical Democracy: A Review

This is a repost from the ACDP Tshwane blog. I initially wrote this for them.

Biblical Democracy... Two words that probably most Christians would not put together. "An oxymoron," they would say!

However, this book written by Edward Cain and his daughter Miriam Cain (who just happened to be at school with my wife many years ago), gives us a practical look at how the principles set forth in the Bible impact society around us.

The book is written in two parts, Part 1 - God and Government (which in my estimation is the Cain's theory behind Biblical Democracy) and Part 2 - Foundation of Freedom (which is a look at history and how different ideas have shaped the world and countries - distinguishing between the righteous American revolution and the hideous French revolution, for instance).

Each chapter in the book starts with the objectives of the chapter. What can you expect to learn from the chapter? Right through two worldviews are contrasted: the Biblical worldview vs. the secular humanist worldview. It shows what will happen when the God of the Bible is denied His rightful place in any country (Part 1) and gives examples from history that proves the point (Part 2). On the other hand, the Cains make it clear that a nation that honour God can expect God's blessings and again they show examples from history.

It is not an exhaustive treatment of the subject of Biblical Democracy, but it certainly is a good introduction to the subject at hand.

To make its point the book gives various statistics related to the South African political scene. For instance, "the murder rate has jumped from 5 959 in 1977/78 to a high of 26 832 in 1994. More people were killed in South Africa each year (1994-1999) in criminal violence than were killed in 13 years of political violence (23 758 from 9/84 to 12/97)." They also show how South Africa outstrips the U.S.A. by far when it comes to murder rates. In South Africa the murder rate per 100,000 is 47.8 (2002 - 21,738 murders)) while in the U.S.A. it is only 5.7 per 100,000 (1999 - 15,500 murders). It also provides us with rape conviction statistics. In 1988 27.1% of reported rapes resulted in convictions whereas by 2000 only 7.6% of reported rapes resulted in convictions!

Anyone who would like to learn more about why Christians should get involved in the political process must read this book, at least as an introduction!

GOP race challenge

Being South African, I am glad I do not have to choose among the GOP front runners. Mitt Romney, like Guiliani (before he dropped out), is a democrat in republican clothes; John McCain is weak on illegal immigrants and Pastor Huckabee is big on BIG government. If the conservatives, especially those who believe that the constitution should be upheld, then they would have stood behind Ron Paul.

But, then, there are so many spin doctors in the American media, they would try to make out that Romney is a "real" conservative and Hillary Clinton is close to being the next mother Theresa.

With all this in mind, Richard A. Viguerie, from Conservatives Betrayed, has challenged conservatives not to be satisfied with the current front runners.

Read his challenge here, and respond if you feel like it.

Democratic strikes

Strikes! South Africa is quite used to strikes these days. We hear of another strike and the first thought we have is that it will just be another fluctuation in the level of service offered in South Africa. Then we think, "What a nuisance!"

However, for some, it is just simply dangerous!

You see, in South Africa, when Mr. Union says jump, everybody is supposed to ask "how high and how far?"
The unions think that the government must do as they say and they further think that those
belonging to the union must strike with them, notwithstanding the fact that the last I read the constitution, this was and still is a democratic country!

But, don't confuse these unionists with the facts!
Is this a picture of democratic protest? Don't kid yourself!
The level of intimidation that people go through in this country with each strike simply speaks of the fact that our unions, like COSATO and others, still have not laid down their communistic aspirations. They remain a danger and a liability to this country. A democratic country!

Those that do not want to strike are intimidated and beaten into submission.

Imagine t
he scene at a public school where some teachers and children attended school. Some union thugs arrived at the school and beat up some teachers and threatened 4th grade children. 10 year olds, for crying out loud! These intimidators are a bunch of cowards! And, the union bosses must not say that they do not hold to this form of intimidation. It has always been like this, and they have done nothing about it, and neither will they! They will lose their display of power.

If these unions had any moral certitude they would kick these intimidating thugs out of their ranks and will not represent them!

My children attend a private school. This past week they had to go to school without their uniforms because there were threats that children with school clothes on would be targeted!

Money or your life! These unions act like a bunch of mafia-type, blackmailing thugs! "You either pay me the money you owe me or I will blow your brains out!"
Apparently blackmail is illegal in this country, but it does not apply to the unions. And don't tell me that the unions want to negotiate their pay raises. They make demands and blackmail the country and its government into compliance. "Give us what we want or else we will bring this country and its economy to a standstill!" That, dear reader, is blackmail!

So far, the government hasn't folded, and let us hope they don't! As long as the unions don't want to play the game of give and take, they cannot expect the government to do the same
.

If the government simply gives in to these demands, the unions will be back next year and the year after that. This will lead to complete ruin of this beautiful nation and soon we will have another Zimbabwe on our hands.

Perhaps the government must make some demands in return. Here is a
suggestion:
Each person that gets a raise like the one demanded will sign a new contract with the government in which they promise to uphold a high standard of service that must be quantifiable. This quantifiable standard will then be used in future pay raises through proper merit appraisals to calculate percentages. In cases where service providers work directly with the lives of people such as nurses, they may be fired directly without the 3 compulsory written warnings when it can be determined that lives were put in danger or for gross negligence.

This is just a suggestion, and has not been put forward in any detail. Of course, the signers of this new contract would be the employer, the employee and where a union is involved a representative of the union.

If only the unions could start understanding the concept of a democracy and stop this undemocratic intimidationary stunts of theirs, then we could perhaps start with real democratic strikes, but I suppose that is too much to ask from communistic throwbacks!

Democracy a-la ANC

Democracy in South Africa is still to be instituted. It is but a dream of South Africans to experience true democracy.

The problem, however, is that South Africa has been a non-democratic society
since the National Party (NP) came to power in 1948 and ruled until April 1994. The NP became the NNP (New National Party) after losing control to the ANC. Subsequently, the NNP has become a distant memory on the South African political landscape. In fact, the NP/NNP lost its traction to such an extent, that it no longer has any presence on the internet apart from being mentioned on other pages as a party that no longer exists; and, it has been swallowed by the ANC. This non-democratic society even continues today under ANC (African National Congress) rule.

Just the way the ANC forced through some laws (legalizing pornography, abortion and same-sex "marriage"), even though the people overwhelmingly spoke against them, speaks volumes of the ANCs undemocratic nature.

The latest "democratic" offering of the ANC in the Johannesburg council is to limit parties' deliberations in council according to their representation in council.

This will severely limit the ability of smaller parties to have their say. A party, such as the ACDP (African Christian Democratic Party), will only get 4.14 seconds (maybe it is 4m14s) per deliberation, according to the information that I received.

Now, this will seem utterly absurd to any logical thinking person concerned about democracy
in this country! How can democracy be served when smaller parties, practically, are kept from giving their insight into the political process?

Since when does brilliance need a majority? Einstein needed no majority of minds to come up with the theory of relativity. If brilliance needed the majority of people to deliberate, what does that say about the ANC's ability to come up with a truly workable solution to fight crime?

The fact is that in democracy we all have an equal voice before the law. It is entrenched in the constitution.

The fact is that the ANC does not want ANY conflicting voices in the market place of ideas. They will give anyone a chance to speak, as long as the ideas presented are not dissenting ideas from the ANC party line. Hence, all other parties oppose them, and as a result, their chances of airing their voices must be severely limited! It seems like democracy does not even exist within the party!

My question to all is: When will people come to the realization that South Africa is NOT run according to democratic principles and the ANC is not an advocate of democracy?
